JETAA Event - Mitsuwa/House Party

Come celebrate the first suburban JETAA event of the year as we first have dinner at the Mitsuwa food court at 6pm. We will have a JETAA sign so we will be easy to find.

Then for those interested, we will have a house party where we will play Rock Band and sing karaoke! Drinks and snacks will be provided!

Japanese Heritage Night - White Sox vs. Indians

The Chicago White Sox have designated Wednesday, July 2, 2008 as Japanese Heritage Night. Come out and see the Chicago White Sox take on Masahide Kobayashi and the Cleveland Indians at 7:11 at US Cellular Field. On this special night all members of the Japanese community will have the opportunity to purchase specially priced White Sox tickets. Tickets priced at $40 and $21 are available at $20 and $10.50

2008 JETAA SHINNENKAI- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The JETAA of Chicago will host our 5th Annual Shinnenkai to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The event will take place on Saturday, January 26 at the Japan Information Center . The New Year's Celebration will offer Japanese food, arts & activities, and the opportunity to meet with others interested in Japanese culture.

Activities include:

  • Food & Drinks: Delicious sushi and a variety of appetizers. Enjoy wine, beer, and soft drinks at the bar.
  • Music: In the tea room, members of Chicago 's Sugano School will play the koto, a traditional Japanese stringed instrument.

  • Create fun souvenirs to take home by joining in these New Year's cultural activities:

  • Gyotaku: Make a Japanese fish print using the tai (red snapper), a symbol of luck and good fortune.
  • Japanese Calligraphy: 2008 marks the Year of the Rat. Learn the kanji and write it on washi

  • Where: Japan Information Center , 737 N. Michigan Ave. , 10th floor of the Olympia Centre. The building entrance is on Chicago Ave. (around the corner from the street address). Validated parking is available for $7 at the Olympia Centre.

    Cost: Tickets purchased by January 21 are $20 for adults and $10 for children (13 and under), which includes two drink coupons, food and all activities. Tickets can be purchased online or by contacting Chris Kelly at jicpress@webkddi.com. Buy three tickets and get the fourth free! (Tickets purchased after January 21 will be $25.) Additional alcoholic beverages ($3) and soft drinks ($1) will be available.

    Volunteers: To volunteer and receive a $10 discount on your ticket, contact Amber Sands at ampersands@gmail.com. All proceeds will be donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Non-perishable food items (no glass containers) and cash donations welcome.
